SSC CGL 2011 Exam Scheme and Pattern


Through SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination successful candidates get appointed at very important and responsible posts in the various Ministries / Departments / Offices under the Government of India.
These posts are under two SCHEMES. Scheme-A posts are  - Assistants [Pay Scale: Rs.6500-10500/-] in Central Secretariat Service and Assistants [Pay Scale: Rs.5500-9000/-] of Indian  Foreign Service/ Railway Board Secretariat Service / Election Commission of India / Armed Forces Head Quarters etc.; Inspectors [Pay Scale: Rs.6500-10500/-] in Income Tax / Inspectors[Pay Scale: Rs.6500-10500/-] of Central Excise in CBEC;  Inspector (Preventive Officers) [Pay Scale: Rs.6500-10500/-]/ (Examiners) [Pay Scale: Rs.6500-10500/-] of Custom House; Inspector [Pay Scale: Rs.5500-9000/-]of Posts in DoP ; Assistant Enforcement Officer [Pay Scale: Rs.6500-10500/-] in CBDT, Sub-Inspectors [Pay Scale: Rs.5500-9000/-] of CBI; Scheme-B posts are -  Divisional Accountants[Pay Scale: Rs.5500-9000/-]; Auditors [Pay Scale: Rs.4500-7000/-]; Junior Accountants [Pay Scale: Rs.4500-7000/-] Upper Division Clerks [Pay Scale: Rs.4000-6000/-] in Central Govt. Offices.

  • This examination is usually held once in a year.
  • Any Graduate candidate can apply for this post subject to fulfillment of Age-limit as per the Notice of the Examination.
  • Age-limit for the post of Assistant and Sub-Inspectors in CBI is 20 to 27 years; for other categories of posts it  is 18 to 27 years.
  • THIS IS A THREE TIER EXAMINATION – (i). Written (Preliminary) Examination; (ii). Written (Main) Examination of the candidates qualified in the Written (Preliminary) Examination.; and (iii). Interview of the candidates qualified in the Written (Main) Examination.
  • COMBINED GRADUATE LEVEL (PRELIMINARY) EXAMINATION consists of two papers of objective type ( multiple choice type)- Part-A: General Intelligence & General Awareness for 100 marks; Part-B: Arithmetic for 100 marks (2 hrs duration). Only those candidates who qualify in the preliminary examination would be called for COMBINED GRADUATE LEVEL (MAIN) EXAMINATION.
  • COMBINED GRADUATE LEVEL (MAIN) EXAMINATION.
The main Examination will consist of the following papers of conventional type under two Schemes-A&B.

SCHEME-B
Paper-I: General Studies(Option to answer either in Hindi or in English) for 200 Marks (3 hrs time);
Paper-II: English for 100 Marks (2 hrs time);
Paper-III: Arithmetic (Option to answer either in Hindi or in English) for 200 Marks (3 hrs time);
Paper-IV: Language Comprehension (English) for 100 Marks (2 hrs time);
Paper-V: Communication Skill & writing ability (option to answer either in Hindi or in English) for 200 Marks (2 hrs time).
Paper-I (Part-A): General English & (Part-B): General Studies(Option to answer either in Hindi or in English) for 100 (50+50) Marks (2hrs);
Paper-II Arithmetic (with option to answer either in Hindi or English) for 100 Marks (2hrs)
Note :
    1. All the Question Papers for the Main Examination will be of conventional type.
    2. Candidates will have the option to answer Paper I (General Studies), Paper III (Arithmetic) and Paper V (Communication Skill and Writing Ability) either in Hindi or English.  Accordingly, these Question Papers will be in both the languages – in Hindi and English.
    3. The Commission will have the full discretion to fix separate minimum qualifying marks in each of the papers and in the aggregate of all the papers separately for each category of candidates (viz. SC/ST/OBC/PH/ExS/General(UR).  Only those candidates who qualify in all the papers as well as in the aggregate would be eligible to be considered for being called for the Personality Test/Interview.
    4. Paper I, II and III will be compulsory for all the candidates.  However, Paper-II will be of qualifying nature only for the candidates who are opting for the post of Assistant )(i.e., for candidates who are opting for the post of Asistant, the marks secured in this paper will not be counted for preparation of the final select list).  The Commission shall have the discretion to fix the qualifying standard in this paper.  Scripts of the remaining papers will be evaluated only of those candidates who secure the minimum qualifying standard in Paper II of the main examination.
Note :
  1. The question papers for the main examination will be of Conventional Type.
  2. Candidates will have the option to Answer Paper I Part (B), and Paper II, either in Hindi or in English.
  3. The Commission will have full discretion to fix separate qualifying marks in each of the papers and in the aggregate of all the papers separately for each category of candidates (viz. UR/SC/ST/OBC/PH/ExS/).  Only those candidates who qualify in all the papers as well as in the aggregate would be eligible to be considered for selection.
  • PERSONALITY TEST/INTERVIEW: Personality Test  of 100 Marks wherever applicable on depth of knowledge of the subjects studied (10+2 onwards), communicative skill and over-all personality etc.  Candidates called for interview/personality test have the option to converse either in Hindi or English language during the interview process.
